“One of the saddest things about being a refugee is that you often dream of your homeland. Even in the dream, you wish it wasn’t a dream, only to wake up to a deep homesickness.”

“As an activist, my deepest desire is not just to return to Tibet to reunite with my parents and siblings. More than anything, I want the younger generations, born in exile and strangers to their own country, to return before I do. I want them to witness the beauty of our homeland before it is irreparably damaged.
I want them to see the monumental mountains before they are scarred by mining, and the vast grasslands before they are erased by relentless development. I want them to see the pristine rivers and rivulets before they are choked and polluted by dams and industry. I want them to see the crystal-clear sky over the Tibetan plateau before it is covered by the dark clouds of Chinese industrialization. I want them to see their Tibetan brothers and sisters before their very identity is transformed.”

“With a learning mentality, everyday life and community become a vast classroom. Conversely, without it, even schools and universities can’t spark growth.”

If only my dreams of a homeland could have lasted a little longer before I woke up again in a rented room in exile.
If only I could greet my parents every day, and ask if there’s anything I can do to help them in any way.
If only I could wake up to freedom in my homeland, gaze up at the beautiful blue sky, and look out upon the vast grasslands.

The weight of my parents’ grief in my absence far surpasses my own feelings of loneliness in a distant land. This longing for reunion serves as a poignant reminder of the ongoing struggle for a free Tibet and fuels my determination to fight for our rightful independence so that one day we can reunite in a land where freedom and justice reign.

On this World Refugee Day, let us remember the heart-wrenching reality faced by refugees in foreign lands. The profound sadness lies in our lack of possession, not only in material things, but even within our own hearts. Even in our deepest slumber, they long to escape and return to the cherished homeland we were forced to leave behind.

Walking in a month-long “Tibet Matters March”, with freedom in mind and a fighting spirit in the soul and body. Covering 35 km each day under the scorching sun.

Today here, on foreign soil, we stand, far from our homeland. But with unity in action, let us all dream even in our sleepless nights and keep our hope higher than the High Standing Himalayas that one day we will return to a Free Tibet and stand and sing together in front of the great Potala Palace. Let us all keep this hope alive and make our dream come true Today or Tomorrow. Let us all fight together.
My final word after the statement I read during our protest rally against the Chinese Communist Party’s 20th National Congress in Beijing on 16th of October 2022.
